ABOUT US

Our History

The foundations of the AEPO began in 2017 when the local municipality first approached a group of researchers at the University of Ottawa for their opinions and advice regarding a upcoming notion to change the city's method of removing snow and ice off the road from rock salt to ethylene glycol.

The topic was of big interest to many of the researchers, but they concluded that in order to properly advise the city council, they needed the expertise of more than just their fellow colleagues. The researchers thus branched out and contacted various other experts including medical doctors, veterinarians, lawyers, environmental activists, meteorologists, and many others for their input on the issue. The AEPO was thus born as a hub for professionals to communicate with each other to come up with the best advice for the city council.

Feeling that information and knowledge should not be restricted to only the policy makers, the AEPO decided that the citizens of Ottawa were entitled to understand the reasoning and evidence behind the AEPO's advice. Our website was launched in early 2018 to facilitate communication between our experts and the citizens so that they too could access information regarding the challenges and changes in the city.

Like any other city, Ottawa faces many changes that affect not only its citizens, but the city as a whole. These changes may involve legislature and policies, construction and infrastructure, or environmental and public health. As home to nearly 1 million people, the Alliance of Expert Professionals in Ottawa (AEPO) was created to ensure that the decisions made by both the government and the citizens are well-informed.

The AEPO is a collection of experts from a variety of different disciplines and backgrounds, all dedicated to the idea that the best decisions are the ones that are supported by factual information and research. We are a third-party group that seeks to advise the municipality on numerous issues such as changes to garbage dumping laws, allocation of construction zones, public health programs and much more.

In addition to serving as an advisory group to the local government, the AEPO strives to make information available and transparent to the citizens of Ottawa. Our experts are happy to discuss and answers any questions you might have regarding changes coming to the city and how you might be impacted. It is our belief that with a professional, unbiased opinion by your side, the citizens of Ottawa can feel assured that the decisions made by the government are made with the benefit of the city as a whole - its people, its environment, and its culture - in mind.
